Chris, In His Own Words
Dec 30, 2025 -Dr. Wilson (right) attends a working session with fellow NCEOB candidates and organizers

Why I’m running For more than two decades, I have dedicated my life to North Carolina’s public schools — as a music educator, school administrator, and single father. I have seen the life-changing power of public education, and I have also seen the damage caused by years of legislative neglect. I am running for the NC House because our students, teachers, and communities deserve leadership that understands public education from the inside and is willing to fight for it. What I’ve experienced as an educator I am not a career politician. I am an educator who has spent my professional life in classrooms, band rooms, and school offices across North Carolina. I have led award-winning programs at multiple high schools and served as an assistant principal, working to build positive school culture and put students first. Today, as Director of Bands at Polk County Middle School, I continue doing the work I love — teaching, mentoring, and helping young people discover their potential. The challenge facing our schools North Carolina’s public education system is in crisis, and that crisis is the result of policy choices. Chronic underfunding, stagnant pay, the elimination of advanced-degree compensation, and the diversion of public dollars to private voucher programs have driven educators out of the profession and weakened our schools. I see the consequences every day — strained budgets, lost talent, and students learning in under-resourced environments. This is not inevitable, and it is not acceptable. What I will fight for If elected, I will be a strong, informed voice for public education in the General Assembly. I will fight to restore competitive teacher pay, reinstate advanced-degree compensation, fully fund the Leandro mandates, and invest in the recruitment and retention of educators. I believe deeply in our constitutional obligation to provide every child with a sound basic education — and I will work to ensure that obligation is met. North Carolina can do better, and I am running to help make that happen.
