Thinking About Running?
Here’s how to get started in 7 clear steps
With clickable links to help you find what you need.
IMPORTANT: September 19, 2025 is the next big deadline!
-
10 minutes,
 -
costs nothing,
 -
you can change your mind later,

1. Decide you’re in.
If you’re a teacher, public school staff member, retiree or community supporter who believes in strong public schools and fair pay for educators—you belong in this movement.
2. Check your districts.
This campaign is focused on finding pro–public education candidates to run in Republic primaries in Republican-held districts.
-
Use the "Find Your Legislators" map to find your NC House and NC Senate districts and check who currently holds the seats.

(We may later introduce educators running in other districts or in the General Election—but our current focus is Republican primaries.)
3. Choose your race: House or Senate.
-
NC House districts are smaller and more local.
 -
NC Senate districts are larger, but the compensation is the same.

Choose the one that fits your community and your interest.
4. Make sure you qualify.
-
To run in the March 2026 Republican primary, you must file to run in December.
 -
You must be registered as a Republican 90 days before you file in December.
 -
Updating or confirming your registration is free and easy. The online form (through the NC DMV) takes 3 minutes to complete - you just need your drivers license number, Social Security Number and date of birth.
 -
Note: It's a private decision, though the change is public record if someone looks for it.

5. Let us know you're interested.
-
Fill out this short form.
 -
This is how we’ll stay in touch, answer your questions, and offer support.
 -
Later, we’ll ask for a photo and a short candidate statement to introduce you on the "Meet the Candidates" page.

6. File for Office. (We’ll help with the filing fee.)
-
Filing opens December 1, 2025 at noon and closes on December 19 at noon.
 -
You must be registered with your party 90 days before you file to run.
 -
Filing costs $140.
 -
If the fee is a barrier, we’ll do our best to connect you with a sponsor.

7. Join a Zoom info session.
-
You’re not alone. We’ll walk through next steps together, connect you with others in the movement, and make sure you feel supported and prepared.
 -
Your party registration must be correct by August. Filing doesn’t happen until December.
